The farm is stewarded by Joseph Fields, a third-generation Gullah Geechee farmer.

Helen Fields began working the farm at 13 alongside Joseph; their grandson, CJ Dillahunt, will inherit it. The farm offers tours, and Helen hopes to open a museum on the property.

In 2006 the family grew collards and butterbeans without chemicals and sold to Whole Foods and Earth Fare. Joseph's six siblings all lived as neighbors on the family land, which kept it clear of the heirs'-property sales that hit nearby farms.
