New roundabout at Main, River & Chisolm
Charleston County set the Johns Island roundabout to open to traffic Monday, Oct. 19, at 6 a.m.

The new roundabout at Main, River and Chisolm roads on Johns Island was set to open to traffic Monday, Oct. 19, at 6 a.m., Charleston County said.
It is part of the U.S. 17 and Main Road Improvements Project: 2.4 miles of Main Road from Bees Ferry Road to River and Chisolm roads, paid for by the 2016 Transportation Sales Tax.
The project aims to ease congestion at U.S. 17 and Main Road, add road capacity, give bikes and walkers a safe way across the Stono River and improve drainage, per the County.
“There’s more work ahead, but this is meaningful progress,” said County Council Chairman Joe Boykin. The County asks drivers to allow extra time and use caution in the work zone.
