Kiawah planners take up a civic center expansion and the Urban Growth Boundary Wednesday
The Planning Commission meets Nov. 4 at 2 p.m. at the Municipal Center. Also on the agenda: floating docks at Shell Creek Landing, the island's dock rules and design review.

Kiawah Island's Planning Commission meets Wednesday, Nov. 4, at 2 p.m. at the Kiawah Island Municipal Center, 4475 Betsy Kerrison Parkway. The largest item on its agenda is a request to amend the Town's Municipal Center Development Plan for a proposed expansion of the Town of Kiawah Island Civic and Cultural Center at that address, and to bring the Walnut Schoolhouse property into the plan.
Commissioners will also consider a resolution on the Urban Growth Boundary along Betsy Kerrison Parkway. It proposes an intergovernmental agreement between the Town and Charleston County to further protect the boundary.
The rest of new business is about docks and design review: two requests to change the dock designation at 1 and 2 Shell Creek Landing from fixed to floating, one in the zoning map and one in the code's list of dock locations; a rewrite of that dock section to clarify how docks are located, designed, reviewed and built; and a change to the Design Review Board's review procedures.
Public comment on agenda items comes early in the meeting. The Town asks for written comments by email to its Planning Department at tokiplanning@kiawahisland.gov, with the case number. The agenda and the meeting materials are on the Town's site, and every posted meeting on the islands is on our Island meetings page.
