How this map is made

Nothing drawn by hand, nothing about you read

The chart: OpenStreetMap’s coastline, marsh, beach and roads (ODbL), baked into the site’s own 1,600-unit frame — the same chart the home film and the share cards use.
The tide, the sun, the dolphin window: NOAA’s predictions for the Kiawah River station (8667062), read by your own browser; the sun’s position computed for the islands; the Town of Kiawah Island’s rule that strand feeding happens within three hours of low tide.
The places: the island directory (listed, never ranked), each placed by the U.S. Census geocoder from its own address, each with the source it was checked against and the date.
Homes: Charleston County’s public parcel layer as aggregates per hex — counts, deeds and medians, never an owner or an address.
You: nothing is read or kept. “Save” keeps a pin in your own browser. The map works without a signal once it has loaded.

Kiawah Island, Freshfields Village, Bohicket Marina and the resort’s courses are named as places. This site is not affiliated with the Town, the Kiawah Island Community Association, the Kiawah Island Club or Kiawah Island Golf Resort.
